Friðrik came west to Winnipeg in 1906 and in company with his brother Aðalstein, who had come west some time before, embarked on a major construction project in the city. The brothers worked together for several years. Hólmfríður came west to Winnipeg in 1911, where her brother Gunnlaugur had come a few years earlier.
