Grímur’s parents, Ólafur Ólafsson and Guðrún Halldórsdóttir, came west to Canada in 1876 with their children. They took land in the Árnes Settlement in New Iceland but later moved to N. Dakota and lived near Mountain. Björg came west in 1879 with her parents, Sigfús Bjarnason and Helga Gunnlaugsdóttir, pioneer settlers in the Hensel Settlement in N. Dakota. Grímur and Björg settled in Roseau, Minnesota and took land in Pohlitz Township.
