Guðmundur Jón Jónsson was born on December 1, 1867 in N. Múlasýslu. He took the name Gudmundur J. Rafnson and later John Robinson in the west.
Spouse: Þorgerður Einarsdóttir b. 1874 in N. Múlasýsla.

Guðmundur came west to Minnesota in 1888; his father, Jón Rafnsson, arrived there a year later. Þorgerður came west in 1877 with her parents, Einar Jónsson and Ólöf Grímsdóttir. They settled in Yellow Medicine County in Minnesota. Guðmundur and Þorgerður lived a number of years in S. Dakota where their daughters Celia and Lillian were born. They later moved back to Minnesota where Guðmundur was a hotel manager in Detroit Lakes, Becker County, Minnesota in 1920.
