Halldór Jónsson was born in W. Skaftafellssýsla on March 1, 1856. He died in Cleveland, Utah on June 15, 1924.

Halldór and Guðrún emigrated west to Utah in 1881 with little Jóhann and settled in Spanish Fork. After a few years, they moved to Emery County, not far from Cleveland, and lived there. Halldór became a Mormon missionary and made two trips to Iceland; the first 1899 to 1901 and the latter 1910 to 1913.
