Ingiríður Ketilsdóttir was born on February 15, 1896 in Brandon, Manitoba.

Ingiríður was the daughter of Ketill Sveinsson and Pálína Sigurðardóttir from Biskupstunga, who came west in 1887 and settled in Brandon. Jón came west in 1893 with his parents Jón Sigurðsson and Guðrídur Jónsdóttir. He lived in Brandon, Manitoba from 1893-1925, then moved west to Vancouver. He devoted himself to furniture making and acquired a carpentry factory there. He concerned himself with social issues in Vancouver, was e.g. president of the Home Builders Association, and the Mainland Millwork Association.
