Jóhanna Helga was the daughter of Bjarni Jasonarson who came west in 1887 and Guðrún Eiríksdóttir who came west from Árnessýsla in 1887. Jóhannes was the son of Þórður Kolbeinsson and Guðríður Jónsdóttir who came west in 1887 and took land in Tantallon, Sask. in 1889. As a young man, Jóhannes started farming near Merid in the area, then worked for many years in Narfi Guðbrandsson’s hardware store near Foam Lake. He later bought land near Foam Lake and farmed it.
