Jóhannes Oddsson was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla in 1811. He died in N. Dakota in 1891.
He came west across the ocean to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876, travelling with his daughters, Guðfinna and Oddný, their spouses and children. He was in New Iceland for the first few years but moved south to N. Dakota around 1880 and lived in the Thingvalla Settlement.
