Jón Sigvaldason was born in N. Múlasýsla on November 3, 1854. He died in Minnesota on August 9, 1904.

Jón emigrated west with his brother Símon Páll in 1876. They travelled to Winnipeg, Manitoba and Jón lived there until 1881 when he moved to the Lyon County Settlement in Minnesota. He lived there until 1889 when he moved to Duluth. He moved back to the Lyon County Settlement at the turn of the century. Lára later married Miles Fuller and moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her youngest children, John and Björg, went with them.
