Life’s road led him to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in the spring of 1904. He took land near Mozart. Rannveig came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with her parents, Árni Sigurðsson and Kristjana S. Stefánsdóttir, in 1892. They took land in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan.
