Júlíus took up the Mormon faith on June 2, 1883 with the missionary Pétur Valgarðsson who was in Iceland at the time. Julius then emigrated west to Utah in July of that year. He settled in Scofield where he worked as a butcher but also worked as a miner. He worked as a butcher in various places in Utah, but in 1928 he settled in Salt Lake City and lived there.
