Kristján came west to Ontario, Canada with his parents and siblings in 1874. They lived in Kinmount the first year before moving to New Iceland. Kristján lived there a few years before moving to the Þingvalla settlement in Saskatchewan in 1885. He lived on the land there until 1891 when he moved to the White Sands settlement. From there, he moved to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1897 and took land in the Foam Lake area. Halldóra was the daughter of Jóhannes Bjarnason and Lilja G. Daníelsdóttir who came west in 1883.
