Kristjana Jóhannsdóttir was born in 1863 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. She died in Manitoba on February 13, 1950.
Spouse: Guðmundur Guðnason b. November 4, 1876 in Dalasýsla, d. in Manitoba on August 18, 1935. He took the name Guðmundur G. Backman in the west.

Kristjana Jóhannsdóttir came west in 1885, the sister of Anna, wife of Skafti Arason, pioneer settlers in New Iceland and the Argyle Settlement. Guðmundur came west in 1893 to Winnipeg, Manitoba and got work with the farmers for the first three years. He bought land in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1903 and moved there in 1906 but the land was in the Mozart Settlement. He sold it in 1910, moved to the Argyle Settlement in Manitoba on to land he had bought, and lived there until 1919 when they moved to Glenboro.
