Laufey Árnadóttir was born in N. Múlasýsla in 1887. She died in Wynyard, Saskatchewan in 1976. She took the name Laufey Hall with marriage.

Ásvaldur was the son of Jónas Hall and Sigríður Herdís Kristjánsdóttir of the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota. Laufey was the daughter of Árni Jónsson and Helga Hallgrímsdóttir, early settlers in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. Ásvaldur grew up in the Garðar Settlement but moved from there in 1905 north to the Lakes Settlement and took land north of Wynyard.
