They came to Manitoba and began farming in New Iceland in 1883. After more than a year, they moved to Winnipeg, where they lived for almost two years. Then they moved to the Þingvalla settlement in Saskachewan where they lived for six years. From there the road lay to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð). Their daughter Aðalbjörg came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with Páll Gunnarsson and his wife in 1878.
