Margrét came west to Winnipeg in 1893. Halldór had arrived there in 1886 and was there some years before moving to Glenboro. He started working at Friðjón Friðriksson’s store in town and worked there for 12 years. He then worked at another store there, but in 1907 he moved to Winnipeg and opened a store in a good location in the city center.
