Metúsalem Vigfússon was born at Háreksstaðir in N. Múlasýsla on June 20, 1855. He took the name Metusalem V. Peterson in the west.

Spouse: 1889 Borgildur Sigmundsdóttir b. October 23, 1872 in N. Múlasýsla.

Metúsalem moved to New Iceland in 1876 where he stayed for a while, then got a railroad job west of Winnipeg. He worked in various locations in Manitoba until 1880, then moved south to N. Dakota. Borghildur came west to New Iceland in 1878 with her mother, Guðrún Einarsdóttir, and her brother Vilhjálmur. They moved from there to Mountain, N. Dakota in 1883, where Guðrún passed on early in 1884. Borghildur and Vilhjálmur were adopted in Mountain. Metúsalem and Borghildur started farming on a small piece of land southeast of Mountain, where they lived until 1896, then they settled in Roseau, Minnesota. After eleven years, Metúsalem sold his land and livestock and moved west to Blaine, Washington. They were there until 1917, when they settled in Yakima, where they grew fruit for years with their children.
