Oddný Jónína Jakobsdóttir was born in 1875 in N. Þingeyjarsýsla. She died in Winnipeg on January 21, 1918.

Oddný came west to Canada in 1884 with her parents, Jakob Oddsson and Sigurbjörg Jónsdóttir, and siblings. Árni came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents in 1887 and lived there after that. Árni was very influential in the Icelandic community in Manitoba, an active participant in the ecclesiastical activities of Icelanders in the West, sat on the city council in Winnipeg and was very concerned about Manitoba’s issues. He was one of the founders of Þjóðræknisfélag Íslendingar í Vesturheimi (Icelandic National League inof North America) and always worked on the relationship between Western Icelanders and Iceland. He was one of the founders of Eimskipafélag Íslands and sat on its board on behalf of Western Icelanders until 1941.
