Ólafur Sigtryggur Þorgeirsson was born in Akureyri in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on September 16, 1864. He died in Manitoba on February 19, 1937. He took the last name Thorgeirsson in the west.

Ólafur came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887, the same year as his parents and siblings. He lived there the rest of his life in Winnipeg and was one of the key members of Icelandic society in the city, in fact in the whole of Western Icelandic society. Jakobína came west to Winnipeg in 1883, a year before her parents and siblings.
