Páll came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1900. His mother, Sigurbjörg Helgadóttir, and brother had arrived there in 1897. He followed the path of education, went to a commercial school in the city and graduated from there in 1905. He then graduated from a school in Toronto in 1908. He lived in Winnipeg until 1952, then moved to Gimli. Ólína came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with her parents, Egill Árnason and Guðlaug Stefánsdóttir in 1904.
