Jón was the son of Jón Guðnason Stevens and Jóhanna Stefánsdóttir. He was a fisherman and a farmer. Ragnhildur came west to Winnipeg in 1903 but quickly moved south to N. Dakota where she grew up. She stayed there for 5 years, then moved back to Manitoba, then to Gimli. She took an active part in congregational activities and the work of the Icelandic club there.
