Rannveig was the daughter of Pétur Guðmundsson and Margrét Sigurðardóttir, who came west in 1900. Halldór was the son of Sigurður Sigurðsson and Ragnheiður Þorveig Þórðardóttir in Rauðamel in Mýrasýsla. Halldór grew up there until the age of seventeen, then came west across the ocean in the fall of 1901. He went to Winnipeg and lived there all his life. He became a mason and later a master builder, with extensive activity in the construction industry for half a century.
