Sigurður Eyjólfsson was born in S. Múlasýsla on March 7, 1852. He died January 1, 1935.

Sigurður emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his father, Eyjólfur Magnusson, his wife, Vilborg Jónsdóttir, and siblings in 1876. His brother, Stefán, had been part of the first group of settlers to New Iceland a year earlier and had bought land for himself and his brothers. Sigurður’s farm was named Akranes and was located in the Icelandic River Settlement. Sigurður lived there until 1902 and then moved to the Víðir Settlement where he spent the rest of his days.
