Sigurður came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents, Jón Sigurðsson and Pálína Þórðardóttir. He moved with them to N. Dakota and to Narrows, Manitoba. He moved from there to the Swan River Valley (Álftárdalsbyggð) and took land. They moved to Winnipeg in 1906 and lived there twelve years. In 1918 they moved back to the Swan River Valley Settlement.
