Sigurgeir Stefánsson was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on July 28, 1950. He died in Selkirk, Manitoba on April 27, 1927.
Spouse: July 7, 1874 Sesselja Friðfinnsdóttir b. June 30, 1851 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla.
Children: 1. Þóra Kristín b. February 23, 1876, d. November 3, 1876 2. Iðunn b, July 3, 1879, d. February 27, 1882 3. Ragnar b. September 1, 1881, d. same year 4. Nora Emily b. October 31, 1884 in Winnipeg 5. Sigurgeir also had a son with his first wife: Gestur b. August 29, 1873; the mother’s name was Guðrún Jónsdóttir from S. Þingeyjarsýsla.
They came west in 1882 with little Ragnar, almost a year old. He died before they reached the end of the road in Manitoba. There they settled in Selkirk and lived there for two years. From there they made their way to Winnipeg, stayed there for a few years but then moved back to Selkirk. They then lived there and Sigurgeir worked at carpentry.
