Snorri was the son of Þorlákur Þorfinnsson and Guðríður Guðmundsdóttir, early settlers in N. Dakota. He chose the path of education, graduating from North Dakota State College in 1920, B. Sc. in 1924 and M. Sc. in 1928 from the same school. He taught 1924-1933 in Granville, N. Dakota. Then he became an agricultural consultant in Sargent Co. 1933-1947. He worked on various research studies for the Farmers Union Grain Terminal and made plans for land use and crop prospects in countless districts.
