Solveig Sveinsdóttir was born on June 20, 1877 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla.

Solveig was the daughter of Sveinn Kristjánsson and Veroníka Þorkelsdóttir, pioneers in the Víðines Settlement in New Iceland. They came west to Canada in 1882. Solveig went to primary school in New Iceland and then completed her teacher’s training in Winnipeg. She taught in both Canada and the United States during the last decade of the 19th century. She went to Iceland in 1899 and taught at Miðbæjarbarnaskólinn in Reykjavík in the years 1900-1902. Símon was the son of Sveinn Sveinsson and Guðrún Símonardóttir, pioneers in New Iceland. Símon and Solveig moved to Wynyard in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1907 and lived there until 1924; from there they went to Chicago. Solveig turned to writing after Simon’s death and moved to Blaine, Washington.
