Stefán Þorkell Árnason was born in N. Dakota on September 16, 1882. He died in Seattle in 1970. He took the name Stefan Thorkell Scheving in the west.

Stefán Þorkell was the son of Árni Þorkelsson and Sigríður Eyjólfsdóttir, pioneers in N. Dakota where Stefán grew up there and was educated. He did business with his father in Mountain but moved west to Seattle in 1938. Anna was the daughter of Guðmundur Jónsson and Rósa Jóhannesdóttir from Skagafjörður. They lived in Reykjavík in 1910.
