Þórdís Anna Gunnsteinsdóttir was born on December 22, 1901 in Manitoba.
Spouse: September 3, 1923 Steinn Ólafur Sveinsson b. Winnipeg on November 23, 1893. He was known as Dr. Thompson in the west, d. Manitoba August 17, 1972.

Þórdís was the daughter of Gunnstein Eyjólfsson, poet, who came west in 1876, and Guðfinna Eiríksdóttir. Steinn grew up with his parents, Sveinn Tómasson and Sigurlaug Steinsdóttir in Selkirk. After high school, he enrolled at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg and earned a B.A. degree in 1924. He was in the Canadian Army in the First World War 1916-1918. He then went back to college and completed his medical degree in 1921. He was a doctor in Riverton from 1922.
