Þorlákur came west with his mother, Guðlaug Hallgrímsdóttir and sister, Petrína in 1887. They settled in the Argyle Settlement where Þorlákur worked with other farmers before renting and eventually buying his land. They lived the rest of their lives in the Settlement. Inga came west alone in 1888.
