Þorsteinn Eyjólfsson was born in N. Múlasýsla on November 9, 1854. He died in New Iceland in 1938.

Þorsteinn was a seaman who worked on both the Icelandic coast and on the North Sea. He moved west to the United States in 1878 settling first in Baltimore. From there he made his way to New Iceland where he spent the rest of his time. He took land in the Icelandic River Settlement which he called Hól.
