Jónas Guðmundsson fæddist í Árnessýslu árið 1856. Maki: Margrét Þorsteinsdóttir f. 1853 í Árnessýslu. Börn: 1. Jónína Sigríður f. 1884 2. Eyjólfur f. 1886. Þau fluttu vestur um haf árið 1887 og munu hafa farið til New York. Þaðan í Seyerville í New Jersey þar sem Jónas lést eftir fáein ár.
